Bushfire Safety & Preparation
Prepare.
Prepare yourself, your family and your home. Prepare your bushfire survival plan; will you leave early or stay and defend your home? Prepare an evacuation pack so you can always be ready to leave if you have to. |
Act.
Keep watch on your area's fire danger rating and act accordingly. The higher the danger rating is, the more dangerous the fire conditions will be. |
Survive.
When you are aware of a fire in your area, put your bushfire survival plan into action to survive. Keep in mind that the safest place is always away from the fire. |
Leaving Early
Leaving early is always the safest option when a bushfire is headed your way. To leave early you have to decide:
If you plan on leaving early, you have to leave long before the fire is near; so early in the morning or the night before are good ideas.

Staying & Defending
If you plan on staying and defending your home, you need to make sure your house is prepared and capable of withstanding the fire danger rating in your area. Do not choose this option if the danger rating is catastrophic/Code Red. You will need plenty of tools if you wish to stay and defend. These tools, along with everything you need to do are listed in the Bush Fire Survival Plan. |
