February 7 1967 On February 7, 1967, high temperatures and strong winds combined with excessive amounts of litter all over the ground, triggering at least 80 fires across southern Tasmania, coming within two kilometres of central Hobart, the state's capital. Over 1,000 houses were demolished and 62 people were killed, with over 900 injured. |
